1Check a site yourself

A station average hides what’s next to a building: a highway, a quarry, a construction site or a landfill can matter more than the station a few kilometres away.

How to check

  1. Find the station nearest the project in the tables above; live readings are on CPCB’s and MPCB’s sites and the SAMEER app.
  2. Look at the bad months, not today: they show the worst a site gets.
  3. On a map, look within a kilometre for highways, industry, quarries and big construction sites.
  4. In Kanjurmarg, check the distance to the dumping ground: our landfill guide has it for each project.

What it doesn’t tell you: This index uses PM2.5 and PM10 only; the official AQI also uses other gases, so it can read differently. Days when a station’s readings were incomplete or inconsistent are left out.
