Buying a flat in Thane West: what the map shows
Balkum, Majiwada and Kolshet lie between the Eastern Express Highway, Ghodbunder Road and Thane Creek: old industrial estates turned into towers, with mangroves along the creek and water mains and power lines through the middle. We measured all 8 housing projects on our mapagainst former industrial land, air force station, mangroves, high-tension power lines, water main and sewage treatment plant, and against the nearest stations and air monitors. The distances, stations and air in detail
Former industrial land
Land mapped as industrial, some of it now built over with housing. Old factory use can leave questions about soil and approvals: ask what stood on the site and whether any unit nearby still operates. OpenStreetMap outlines named Colour Chem and Bombay Chemicals. MPCB’s 2021 hazardous-waste inventory lists chemical units at these addresses; whether either still operates is not confirmed.

Air Force Station
Buildings near an Air Force station usually need its no-objection certificate and may face a height limit. Check the project’s approvals for one. The military land mapped in OpenStreetMap at Kolshet.

Mangroves
